Ceramic Crowns

We restore teeth to their strong, stunning brilliance with quality porcelain crowns

If you have a badly infected or damaged tooth, you don’t have to smile behind the pain or feel insecure about your grin. Drs. Ty Jaros, Jacob Gubrud, and Robert Gemmell at Distinctive Dentistry in Eugene, Oregon, use porcelain crowns to restore the health and appearance of your smile. Our ceramic crowns blend seamlessly with natural teeth to deliver a beautiful, natural-looking smile. Read on to learn more about why people get porcelain crowns.

What is a dental crown?

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped appliances worn over your teeth to enhance their appearance and strength. We use dental crowns to correct the damage that’s too extensive for typical fillings. A dental crown encapsulates the entire visible portion of your tooth to improve its shape and size and prevent further damage.

While dental crowns can be made from metal and other materials, we prefer tooth-colored materials like ceramic to ensure your crown looks natural.

Reasons you may need a dental crown

A smile can lower stress, improve your mood, and help you look your best. But what if your teeth need a little help? Discover how dental crowns can restore your smile.

  • Restore damaged teeth: Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth can diminish your oral function and even prevent you from smiling as much as you’d like. When placed on an existing tooth, a dental crown improves its appearance and strength, making your repaired tooth look as good as new
  • Replace missing teeth: A missing tooth can cause the adjacent teeth to be out of alignment. That’s not all. Lost teeth diminish your chewing and speaking ability. While you might have considered dentures to replace missing teeth, dental crowns are more effective. We can use a dental crown to secure a dental bridge or complete an implant-based restoration as a long-term tooth replacement
  • Improve a cosmetically challenged tooth: Do you have a severely stained or misshapen tooth? We can dramatically change its appearance by installing a dental crown

REQUEST APPOINTMENT

Traditional crowns require at least two dental appointments. Much of the magic happens in the first appointment, where we reshape your tooth, take your bite impressions, and place a temporary crown to protect your prepped tooth. Once an offsite dental lab completes your crown fabrication, we will place it during your second appointment. After inspecting its appearance and fit, our dentist bonds your crown into place, and now you are ready to enjoy your renewed smile.

The benefits of porcelain dental crowns

Here are the reasons why patients and dentists prefer porcelain crowns.

  • They look natural: Porcelain has the luster and translucency of natural teeth for a life-looking appearance. Once placed, nobody can tell you have undergone any dental procedure — all we see is a healthy, beautiful smile
  • Stain-resistant: Unlike your enamel, porcelain is non-porous, meaning it doesn’t absorb stains from coffee, soda, or wine. Dental crowns help you maintain a stunning, white smile until they are due for replacement
  • Durability: High-quality dental crowns can last for 10-15 years or more with proper care. This means you have a decade-plus to eat, chew, and smile without worrying about your teeth
  • Cost-effective: Your dental crown saves damaged teeth from extraction and extensive procedures like root canals. The initial cost of a dental crown is high, but the benefits outweigh the costs in the long term
