Oral sedation dentistry

Patients with dental phobias are not alone. In fact, patients of all ages can experience a fear of dentists. The sights, sounds, and smells of a dental office can keep many patients from seeing their dentist regularly. With solutions such as sedation dentistry, many individuals can get themselves into the dental chair for necessary work while still feeling comfortable and at ease. At Distinctive Dentistry, Dr. Ty Jaros, Dr. Jacob Gubrud and Dr. Robert Gemmell can provide solutions for individuals with dental phobia using conscious sedation.

What is oral conscious sedation?

Using oral sedation for dental work can be a much more comfortable experience for needed cleanings, evaluations, and treatments. This sedation method is a prescription sedative that is prescribed for the patient before their appointment. About one hour before they arrive for the appointment, they are encouraged to take the medication orally. When they arrive at the dental office, they are often relaxed and ready for their visit. They will awaken with little or no recollection of the appointment—and their dental work completed successfully! Patients using the option of conscious sedation will need to arrange for a ride home from their appointment.

Why consider oral sedation for dental work?

Patients with moderate to severe dental anxieties may still struggle with sedation methods such as laughing gas or nitrous oxide and may find it challenging to get to the dental office, let alone sit in the chair. Oral conscious sedation allows patients to arrive and undergo their treatments free of anxiety. Most patients with dental anxiety will find oral conscious sedation to be incredibly effective for their needs.
