We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to our patients
Patients who are uneasy about visiting the dentist due to dental phobias may want to ask their dentist about the benefits of sedation. Sedation dentistry allows a dentist to incorporate a sedation method to keep patients at ease and comfortable during their entire treatment in the dentist’s chair. One way to do this is with nitrous oxide, often referred to as “laughing gas.” Laughing gas is generally safe for both kids and adults and helps in alleviating dental phobia.
How does nitrous oxide (laughing gas) work?
Nitrous oxide is a colorless and odorless gas administered to the patient through a mask that fits over the nose. Patients can breathe in through the nose to inhale the gas and will feel calm within seconds. Some patients become happy or giddy while under nitrous oxide, while others may fall asleep. Either way, dental work can be completed while the patient is comfortable, ensuring necessary dental work gets done when needed.
Can I use nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for cavity fillings?
Nitrous oxide is commonly used for minor procedures such as fillings and can even be used for those undergoing a simple cleaning and evaluation. At Distinctive Dentistry, our team wants to make sure patients are comfortable during their appointment and have a positive experience. We can integrate nitrous oxide into most dental services at our facility.
What other options are available for dental sedation?
The team at Distinctive Dentistry knows that not everyone reacts the same to dental therapies. This is the same for sedation methods. If patients have trouble just getting to the office due to their moderate to severe dental phobias, they might be better suited for solutions such as oral conscious sedation, which is a sedative taken before one’s appointment that leaves them awake but relaxed. During a consultation appointment with Drs. Robert Gemmell and Ty Jaros, patients can describe the level of sedation that can get them into the dentist’s chair and ready for their procedures.
